The core of the ~lymph~ ~node~ is known as the |medulla| and the outer portion, or outer lining, of the ~lymph~ ~node~ is known as the |cortex|. The ~lymph~ ~node~ has a shape similar to a kidney bean. The |cortex| covers the ~lymph~ ~node~ up to the depression, where the |medulla| reaches the surface. The |efferent vessels| enter the ~lymph~ ~node~ directly into the |medulla| at this point. The ~lymph~ ~node~ provides an intricate network of spaces through which fluid is slowly flitered, its noxious contents being destroyed and its valuable contents recycled.
